Hello and welcome to the Body By Patrick podcast. My name is, Patrick Ocheni. In today’s episode, I want to talk about, are you willing to pay the price to achieve your weight loss goal?
The way this topic came about was recently I was on Instagram, and I saw a post by one of my favorite people that I follow and he was talking about how people say they want to achieve some kind of success but they’re not necessarily willing to pay the price to achieve that goal.
So I thought, that’s a good topic that I could talk about on my podcast.
I’m going to talk about this in the context of hiring a personal trainer, if you’re willing to invest in hiring a personal trainer.

I’ve been a personal trainer for over 15 years, and during that time I have people come to me and say, “Hey Patrick, I see you training clients. They’re achieving great results. And, I want to hire you to be my personal trainer, but I just don’t have the money.”
People like that basically, they’ve not worked on their mindset. They say they want to lose weight, but guess what? They do not want it bad enough.
I’m going to talk to you today about four things that pertains to a certain kind of mindset you need to have, if you’re trying to lose weight.
The first thing is this, people that say personal trainers are too expensive generally means that they don’t understand leverage.
You can only take yourself so far.
You cannot solve a problem with the same level of thinking in which the problem was created. If right now you’re overweight, you became overweight because of the way you were thinking.
You need to course correct. You need a different approach, but you’re not going to be able to solve that problem with the way you’ve been doing it because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. It’s not going to work.
By investing in a personal trainer means that you are buying leverage.
If I wanted to do surgery right now, I could go on Google and try to figure out how to do surgery on my arm, or I can just go to my surgeon and say, hey, I have this situation on my arm I need you to surgically remove it.
Which one is going to take longer? Of course trying to figure it out on my own. It’s going to take longer, but if I go to the expert, they already are doing it. They’re going to be able to immediately tell you or figure out how to get it done quickly, safely without costing you a great deal of time.
So, people think that by not investing in a resource, they’re actually saving money. It’s actually costing them money.
Now, the other thing I noticed is that people don’t put enough value on their fitness goal.
If you say to me, I want to lose weight, I’m sick and tired of looking in the mirror and hating the image that I see. I am sick and tired of not being able to fit into my jeans but, guess what, I do not want to invest in hiring a personal trainer.
That tells me that you truly are not serious about achieving that goal bottom line.
For example, I had a client that had diabetes for 10 years and he’d be trying to lose weight. He would lose some weight and he’d get it back.
The first time we trained together, I noticed right away that the reason why he had not achieved his goal was because his training approach was totally wrong. Also, he was not working or training at the level in which he was capable of training.
When we started training together, he was like, oh my gosh, I have never felt this way ever while working out by myself. But, when it came down for him to get more sessions, he was like, Patrick, I’ve learned so much from you but I just don’t have money.
Okay, you’ve had diabetes for 10 years. You’ve been trying to lose weight on your own, you’ve not been able to do it. I’m showing you a better way, but you’re saying to me you don’t have money?.
The other reason why people don’t invest in getting additional help is that, the reason why they’re trying to achieve that thing they’re trying to achieve is not big enough or is not important enough.
Usually, the reason people want to lose weight is very superficial.
They want to fit into the jeans. Those are important goals, but guess what? That is not deep enough, it’s not emotionally charged enough want to want to propel you to invest in hiring a personal trainer.
The person that has a better “why” is somebody that came to me recently and said, ” Patrick, my doctor said my cholesterol is getting out of control. You need to get it in check.”
And he said to me, Patrick, I’ve been working out on my own but I’ve seen no result. I need your help.
Lastly, people don’t invest in personal training because they’re comfortable.
They’re like, okay, I want to lose weight but, you know what, it’s not so bad. They find ways to justify why to remain in that situation.
Does that make sense to you guys?
Hopefully, the information I’ve shared with you sparks some thought in your mind.
